About

Updated March 2024

Jade Emma Love Jones (b. 2001) is an African American/Australian artist born in Naarm Melbourne. Exploring themes of black identities, culture, and notions of home, Jade uses photography to explore her community and herself in an intimate and considered way. Capturing images that reconstruct preconceived notions of blackness is important in her practice to create new narratives and stories. Jade values working in collaboration with other BPOC to create artworks that portray communities outside of the European gaze.

Jade was the Grand Prize winner for the Wyndham council Way out West photography award in 2022, with her photograph featured in a public exhibition at Werribee station. Jade was also the recipient of the Aperture Award for at the 2023 CCP Summer Salon. She was featured as a runner up for the Robyn Beeche Award for 2023 and exhibited in a group show at Site 8 Gallery. Jade has contributed in conversation with Publics Gallery: The View From Here as a feature artist to discuss her work and practice. She has also recently exhibited in the group show for Our Turn exhibition at Unassigned Gallery and her first solo show at Queen Victoria Women's Centre.
